Who are we ?
Hnaxulu is an agricultural company founded in 2018, bringing together volunteers committed to developing small-scale agricultural projects within tribes on Lifou Island. We are a federative entity of growers united by a shared passion: cultivating and enhancing the value of Lifou vanilla.
Committed to a fair, community-driven, and supportive approach, Hnaxulu is the realization of the project initiated by the TRENGETRENG association in 2019. Its goal: to provide concrete solutions to societal and tribal challenges linked to the impact of modernity, particularly affecting Kanak youth and their families in the tribes.

Why "Hnaxulu" ?
Hnaxulu, in the Drehu language, means both “Forest” and “Origin.” This choice is not insignificant: it reflects our deep connection to nature and our way of cultivating vanilla in a forest environment.
Drehu is one of the 28 Kanak languages of New Caledonia, spoken exclusively in the customary area of Drehu, on the island of Lifou, located in the Loyalty Islands Province. By adopting this name, we affirm our attachment to our land, our culture, and the traditions that guide our work.

The “Hnaxulu” Spirit

At Hnaxulu, we cultivate Lifou vanilla in harmony with our traditions and our environment. Our mission is to preserve and promote ancestral know-how while supporting the economic autonomy of Kanak growers.
We stand for an authentic culture, respectful of ecosystems and tribal ways of life. We believe in solidarity, bringing producers together and supporting the development of agricultural micro-projects. Finally, we are committed to excellence, ensuring ethical, traceable, and exceptionally high-quality production.
Through Hnaxulu, we proudly carry Lifou vanilla, a reflection of our identity and our passion.

My Field, My Home
At Hnaxulu, our fields are much more than cultivation areas—they are our living spaces. Living in the heart of the forest, beside our fields, maintaining them is essential to preserving our daily environment.
Selecting trees in the forest: Trees, essential for providing shade, serve as living supports for the vanilla plants and protect the natural ecosystem.
Preserving water quality: By using natural substrates, we maintain the purity of groundwater.
Choosing organic fertilizers: The exclusive use of organic fertilizers helps preserve biodiversity and ensures high-quality vanilla.
